The modified empire lampshade has the same straight sides as the empire lampshade, but has a larger opening at the top of the shade, and is also shorter than its same sized empire counterpart. The modified empire is a useful lampshade style for larger based lamps and also for swing arm floor lamps – the larger opening at the top allows use of a larger wattage bulb.
